Derek Dean

I was born in Oklahoma in 1955. I learned about photographic composition by absorbing every issue of National Geographic and Life magazines, and about the technical aspects of photography from my parents, both, avid photographers. After getting my Bachelor of Fine Arts Film/Video/Photography degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1982, I moved to Monterey, CA, where I spent many years as a professional color printer, shooting wedding videos and photos as a side business. Being an avid musician, I’ve shot hundreds of hours of video and thousands of photos of local bands, many taken at the Three Spirits Art Gallery in nearby Sand City, at weekly events loosely called, “Sand Jams”.
